An outdoor swivel recliner is a patio chair that turns all the way round, reclines its back and lifts a footrest. This is the companion to our outdoor swivel rocker showdown, and it is a smaller fight for a reason: almost every deep-rated “swivel recliner” on Amazon is an indoor or nursery chair, and the deep outdoor recliner bases are zero-gravity loungers that do not swivel. Three outdoor swivel recliners carry a real owner base, from $180 for one chair to $1,098 for two, so it is billed Pound-for-Pound.

We read every listing signed in on October 16, 2026, with its critical reviews. No credentialed outlet has tested an outdoor swivel recliner, so the fight is decided on what owners say about the part that fails.

The short version:

🏆 Best overall: LayinSun Oversized Wicker Swivel Glider Recliner, Set of 2 ($1,098 for two). Swivels, glides and lies flat, 400 lb, 4.5★. The catch: a footrest owners struggle to push back down.

💲 The budget pick: Outsunny Wicker Swivel Recliner (841-026) ($180). A real swivel recliner for a fraction of the money, on the deepest base we found. The catch: the recline will not hold on its own.

⛔ SKIP: Belord Dual-Adjust Swivel Recliner. An owner reports it flipping over laid flat on a base ring too small for it, and two others say it is built for people about 5′4″.

The part that fails is the one that moves

A recliner adds a mechanism to a swivel chair, and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recliner recalls are all about that mechanism:

RecallChairsUnitsWhat the CPSC says
2003, Lane FurnitureHigh-Leg recliners620,000“A mechanism in the footrest can create a pinch point that can cause injury if consumers open or recline the chair by reaching underneath the footrest.” 18 reports, three broken bones
2011, Big Lotsglider recliners with ottomansabout 375,000“An exposed gap between the moving parts of the chair and the base framework can allow access to toddlers and infants, posing an entrapment hazard.”
2009, Lane Home Furnishingsglider reclinersabout 700“The base of the chair, if installed backwards, can allow the chair to tip-over backwards”

All three were indoor chairs, and no outdoor swivel recliner has been recalled (we checked each brand here on October 16, 2026). The owners of these outdoor ones describe the same three failures — a stiff footrest, a back that will not hold, and a chair that tips when laid back — so that is what we ranked on.

The other number to read is the weight. LayinSun rates its chair for 400 lb, Outsunny for 352. Lane Venture, the one maker we found that writes a separate figure for a chair in use, says: “Weight limit in motion is 250 lbs.” Ask what a rating means while the chair is moving.

Best overall: LayinSun Oversized Wicker Swivel Glider Recliner, Set of 2

The LayinSun is the only outdoor recliner here that does all of it: it swivels, glides, reclines to flat and lifts its footrest, on a frame rated for 400 lb with 6-inch olefin cushions. It is 4.5★ across 102 ratings and #31 in Reclining Patio Chairs, and LayinSun publishes what it covers: “1-year limited warranty on LayinSune frame and wicker. For LayinSune cushion covers, we offer free replacement for 2 years.” Two chairs are $1,098 against a $1,220 list.

Its owners love the chair and fight the footrest. Five of its seven critical reviews are the mechanism — “Can’t push the foot rest in on one chair … Hits metal to metal” — and a four-star owner puts it plainly: “The footrest is hard to put back down. I have to get out of the chair and put the footrest down by hand as my legs are not strong enough to close it.”

Not for you if: you cannot push a stiff footrest closed with your legs, or you will lie it flat on an uneven deck — a 6′5″ five-star owner warns “you can topple over backwards if not careful.” Its 102 ratings pool the one-, two- and three-piece sizes; 10 written reviews sit on this pair.

The budget pick: Outsunny Wicker Swivel Recliner (841-026)

The Outsunny is the way to try a swivel recliner without spending recliner money: $180 for a PE rattan chair on a powder-coated steel frame that swivels, reclines and lifts a footrest, rated for 352 lb. It also has the deepest owner base of any outdoor swivel recliner we found, 4.0★ across 202 ratings with 37 written reviews on this colour. Outsunny’s warranty is one year, and only for chairs bought from “authorized merchants, official marketplaces, or the official Outsunny Shopify store”; this listing is sold by Aosom Direct, Outsunny’s own parent.

It is a push-back recliner with no lock, and that is the complaint: “Reclines but doesn’t want to stay in the position without me staying tense to hold it back.” One owner’s chairs rusted inside a year on a covered porch, “making it hard to open the foot rest and loud when it swivels,” and another reports the seat bottom hitting the round base as it turns. Only 52% of its ratings are five stars.

Your pick if you want to try a swivel recliner for under $200 and you are happy to hold the recline with your back rather than a lock.

Pros
  • A swivel recliner with a lifting footrest for a fraction of the others here

Cons

  • Only 52% of its ratings are five stars, the lowest here, and an owner reports the seat bottom hits the round base when it turns

The recline: hard to push back and will not hold a position; also rust in the mechanism within a year, thin cushions, and transit damage.

SKIP: Belord Dual-Adjust Swivel Recliner (BE-KWBR20P)

On paper the Belord is the clever one: separate buttons for the back and the footrest, and a 108° to 155° range. One owner’s review is the reason it is a SKIP: “The ring on the bottom is way too small and when you flatten the chair since ring diameter is too small you flip over, very dangerous if no one is around to help.” Two of its other critical reviews say it is built for people about 5′4″ or shorter. It sits on 39 ratings, which is early data, Belord has no website, and the listing names no warranty term.

Also considered, and why they are not ranked

  • Thomasville Elko at Costco: the swivel glider recliner set buyers search for by name. It is not on Amazon, where every owner base here was read, and Costco’s page would not load for us, so it is named, not ranked.
  • Launch listings: Velscape, ACTREST and RELAX4LIFE outdoor swivel recliners carried 1 to 20 ratings at our read.
  • Indoor and nursery swivel recliners (DaVinci, Korser, massage-and-heat chairs) and zero-gravity loungers dominate Amazon’s recliner results by volume; none is an outdoor swivel recliner.

How to choose, and how to live with the mechanism

  1. Try the footrest before you trust it. Close it with your legs, seated, the way you will every evening; owners of the best chair here could not.
  2. Prefer a lock to a push-back. A push-back recliner holds the angle only while you hold it.
  3. Lie it flat on level ground. Two of the three chairs here have owner reports of tipping when laid back.
  4. Ask for the in-motion weight. A static rating is not the same number as a chair moving under you.
  5. Keep it dry and lubricated. Rust is what stiffened one Outsunny’s footrest and made it loud when it swivelled.

FAQ

What is the best outdoor swivel recliner in 2026?

The LayinSun Oversized Wicker Swivel Glider Recliner: it swivels, glides and lies flat, is rated for 400 lb, and is 4.5★ across 102 Amazon ratings. Its catch is the footrest — five of its seven critical reviews say it is hard to push back down. If you want to spend far less, the Outsunny 841-026 swivel recliner is the budget pick, with the catch that its push-back recline does not hold a position on its own.

What breaks on an outdoor swivel recliner?

The moving parts. Every recliner recall we found on the CPSC's database is a mechanism: Lane's High-Leg recliners (620,000 chairs) because 'A mechanism in the footrest can create a pinch point'; Big Lots' glider recliners (375,000) for an 'exposed gap between the moving parts of the chair and the base framework'; and Lane glider recliners whose base 'can allow the chair to tip-over backwards'. Those were indoor chairs, and no outdoor swivel recliner has been recalled, but Amazon owners of the outdoor ones report the same three things: a stiff footrest, a back that will not hold, and a chair that tips when laid flat.

How much weight can an outdoor swivel recliner hold?

LayinSun rates its recliner for 400 lb and Outsunny for 352 lb; Belord's listing states no figure. Lane Venture, the one maker we found that publishes a separate number for a moving chair, says its 'Weight limit in motion is 250 lbs' — so ask any maker what its rating means while the chair is reclining and swivelling, not only sitting still.

Is there an outdoor swivel recliner at Costco?

Costco lists the Thomasville Elko 3-piece outdoor patio swivel glider recliner set, the one buyers search for by name. It is not sold on Amazon, which is where we read every owner base here, and we could not read its Costco page, so it is named but not ranked.
