An extra-large grill gazebo is a roofed shelter about 12 feet long, with steel counters at the ends and room in the middle for one or more grills. This showdown is for the buyer who wants room for the grill plus a bar. For a single grill under an 8 × 5 or 6 × 8 roof, see the best grill gazebos; that page answers the smaller question and this one the bigger. Prices run from about $999 to $1,799, so it is billed Catchweight: compared by need, not price.
We read every listing signed in on October 15, 2026, with its own written reviews and critical reviews, and every maker’s page, manual drawing and warranty. No credentialed outlet has tested an extra-large grill gazebo, so the fight is decided on the owner record and the paperwork.
The short version:
🏆 Best overall: Backyard Discovery Saxony XL 12’ × 6’ ($1,199 on Amazon at our read, sold by Amazon). 90 written reviews for this size, 8 critical, all about freight. At 120.3 inches between the front posts, one full-size grill keeps its manual’s clearance from the cedar. The catch: two grills do not.
🔩 The all-steel pick: Backyard Discovery Rockport XL 12’ × 6.5’ ($1,799). Nothing in the frame burns, so run as many grills as fit. The catch: 11 reviews of its own, and the most money here.
🍸 The bar pick: Backyard Discovery Granada 10’ × 9’ ($1,299). Build the counters L-shaped or split, at bar or counter height. The catch: 79.9 inches between cedar posts is tight for a full-size gas grill.
💲 The aluminum value pick: PURPLE LEAF 6.5’ × 12’ Hardtop Grill Gazebo ($999.00). No wood anywhere and 5 years on the roof. The catch: shelves, not a bar.
⛔ SKIP: Sunjoy 12’ × 10’ Cedar Grill Gazebo. Its own manual says it is not designed for high winds, rain or snow; its listing says it stands firm against harsh weather.
Size changes the cedar answer
Every grill maker we read sets a side clearance to combustible materials: 24 inches for a Weber Spirit gas grill, 20 for a Traeger Woodridge, 12 for a Pit Boss 700S, 36 for a Blackstone griddle. Steel and aluminum posts are not combustible. Cedar is, and Backyard Discovery’s own safety booklet says so: “Wood is NOT flame retardant and will burn.”
So the question for a cedar grill gazebo is the opening between the posts. We read each maker’s dimension drawing:
| Gazebo | Frame | Opening between posts (manual drawing) | Room a side for one 48.3 in Weber Spirit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saxony XL 12 × 6 | Cedar | 120.3 in (front) | about 36 in, over Weber’s 24 |
| Granada 10 × 9 | Cedar | 79.9 in (gable end) | about 15.8 in, under Weber’s 24 |
| Saxony 8 × 5 (the small one) | Cedar | 73.3 in | about 12.5 in |
| Rockport XL 12 × 6.5 | Steel | about 10 ft clear | does not apply: nothing burns |
The same brand gives opposite answers at different sizes. Backyard Discovery says the Saxony XL “accommodates two full-size grills”; two Weber Spirits side by side leave about 12 inches a side to the cedar, so for two grills buy the steel Rockport XL.
The bar tops are steel; the outlets are the open question
Every bar top here is powder-coated galvanized steel, and steel does not burn. The counters sit on the end walls of the Saxony XL and Rockport XL, out of the grill’s way.
The outlets are less settled. Backyard Discovery’s PowerPort (3 outlets, 3 USB) and Sunjoy’s outlet print no electrical rating and no UL, ETL or GFCI listing on any page or manual we read. UL 1363, the standard for plug-in power strips, covers “indoor use cord and plug connected, relocatable power taps”. Plug the gazebo into a GFCI-protected outdoor outlet with an in-use cover, and keep the cord end at least 6 inches off the ground, as Backyard Discovery’s own PowerPort sheet asks.
The permit line
A 12-foot grill gazebo is big enough to need a permit in some places. The International Residential Code exempts “one-story detached accessory structures, provided that the floor area does not exceed 200 square feet”, but your county decides. Hillsborough County, Florida, says a project not on its exempt list “most likely requires a permit”; Pasco exempts gazebos up to 150 square feet only with tie-downs. The 12 × 6 models cover about 72 square feet, the Granada’s roof about 94, and the Sunjoy 12 × 10 about 118.
Every warranty here excludes the wind its page advertises
Backyard Discovery prints “100 mph*” on every page, and the footnote reads “Product must be anchored as specified in the Backyard Discovery instruction manual”; its warranty excludes “Acts of nature including but not limited to wind”. Sunjoy’s page says 50 mph; its manual says the gazebo “is not designed to withstand harsh weather, including high winds, rain, and snow”, and its one-year warranty excludes acts of nature. PURPLE LEAF prints no wind figure at all. The snow numbers are whole-roof totals (Backyard Discovery 3,700 to 4,700 lb, Sunjoy 2,400 lb), which grow with the roof and do not compare.

Best overall: Backyard Discovery Saxony XL 12’ × 6’ Cedar Grill Gazebo
The extra-large grill gazebo with the deepest record of its own: 90 written reviews for the 12 × 6 size, and the 8 critical ones are about delivery (boxes lost by the freight carrier, one of two boxes opened and damaged), not the structure. It has a 29-gauge galvanized steel roof on 4 3/4-inch cedar posts, a 16-inch steel bar top at each end, a PowerPort, and 72.9 inches under its lowest beam. Amazon sells and ships it at $1,199 against a $1,599 list, and Backyard Discovery covers it for 5 years.
The drawing is the reason it wins: 120.3 inches between the front posts leaves a 48.3-inch Weber Spirit about 36 inches a side, clear of Weber’s 24 from combustible materials.
Not for you if: you want two full-size grills under it (that leaves about 12 inches a side to the cedar), you will not seal the wood once or twice a year (Backyard Discovery makes that “a requirement of your warranty”), or you were counting on the 100 mph rating, which needs the manual’s anchoring and which the warranty does not cover anyway.
Best XL grill gazebo — wide enough that one grill clears the cedar · 12 × 6 ft · cedar posts, 29-gauge steel roof · two steel bar tops · PowerPort · 4.6★ (616 Amazon, family-wide)
Your pick if you want one full-size grill or griddle under a roof with a steel bar top at each end, and you will keep the second grill out of it, because at this width one grill clears the cedar posts and two do not.

- The deepest record of its own in the class: 90 written reviews for the 12 × 6 size, 8 of them critical
- 120.3 in between the front posts leaves about 36 in a side around a 48.3 in Weber Spirit, more than Weber’s 24
- Steel bar tops at each end, sold and shipped by Amazon
- Prints its clearances in the manual drawing
- Two full-size grills side by side leave about 12 in a side to cedar posts that Backyard Discovery says will burn
- The 100 mph rating needs the manual’s anchoring, and the warranty excludes wind anyway
- Its critical reviews are freight: boxes lost, opened or damaged in delivery
- The cedar needs sealant once or twice a year to keep the warranty
Delivery, not the structure: boxes lost by the freight carrier, opened or damaged on arrival, one box of two delivered; one owner found it cheaper at Sam’s Club.

The all-steel pick: Backyard Discovery Rockport XL 12’ × 6.5’ Steel Grill Gazebo
The Rockport XL is the Saxony XL’s shape in powder-coated galvanized steel: posts, walls, roof and bar tops. Nothing in it can burn, so a griddle, a smoker and a gas grill can share the 10-foot centre without anyone measuring to a post. None of the 11 written reviews for the XL size is critical; one owner writes “I put this up all by myself. It is very good quality and very solid.” Amazon sells it at $1,799.
The catches: a thin record of its own (its 4.8 is shared with the smaller Rockport), the most money here, and paperwork that disagrees with itself on height (89.5 inches on the page, 94.25 in the manual drawing).
Backyard Discovery Rockport XL 12' × 6.5' Steel Grill Gazebo
The all-steel pick — nothing in the frame can burnYour pick if you run two grills, a griddle and a smoker and want nothing combustible within reach of any of them, and you will pay about $600 more than the cedar XL for that.
“I put this up all by myself. It is very good quality and very solid. The hard part was screwing it down to the cement patio.”— Charlie, Amazon · Verified owner
- All steel: frame, walls, roof and bar tops, so a grill’s side clearance never touches wood
- Zero critical reviews among the 11 written for the XL size
- Room in the centre for more than one grill, by the maker’s words
- Sold and shipped by Amazon
- Its own page says 89.5 in tall; its manual drawing says 94.25 in
- The record is thin: 11 written reviews of its own, and its 4.8 is shared with the smaller Rockport
- About $600 more than the cedar Saxony XL
- The 100 mph rating needs the manual’s anchoring, and the warranty excludes wind

The bar pick: Backyard Discovery Granada 10’ × 9’ Cedar Grill Gazebo with Bar
The Granada is the one to buy for the bar. Its manual lets you build the two steel counters as an L along the back and one side, or split them one to a side, and set them at counter or bar height. A gable steel roof with wide overhangs covers the most floor in the class. Amazon sells it at $1,299.
Its drawing puts 79.9 inches between the cedar posts at the gable end, which leaves a Weber Spirit about 15.8 inches a side, short of Weber’s 24. A narrower grill, a griddle on the steel counter side, or a pellet grill with a 12-inch rule (Pit Boss) fits better. The record is thin (25 ratings), and its two critical reviews are missing parts.
Backyard Discovery Granada 10' × 9' Cedar Grill Gazebo with Bar
The bar pick — counters L-shaped or split, at bar or counter heightYour pick if the bar matters as much as the grill, you want to choose an L-shaped or split counter at bar or counter height, and your grill is narrow enough for its manual’s clearance inside an 80 in cedar opening.
“This was an extremely easy install, just be patient and take your time.”— Alec M., Amazon · Verified owner
- The only one here whose bar you configure: L-shaped or split, bar or counter height
- A gable roof with wide overhangs over the most floor area in the class
- Sold and shipped by Amazon, 5-year warranty
- 8 written reviews of its own, mostly praising a patient, easy build
- 79.9 in between cedar posts at the gable end leaves a 48.3 in Weber Spirit about 15.8 in a side, under Weber’s 24
- Thin record: 26 ratings, and the critical reviews are missing parts
- An owner: 'The roof edges are NOT drip edges'
- At 94 sq ft of roof it sits close to some county permit lines; check yours
Missing parts: one owner’s hired contractor had to buy parts to finish.

Twelve feet of two-tier galvanized steel roof on a powder-coated aluminum frame, so there is no wood to keep a grill away from, for $999.00 on Amazon. PURPLE LEAF covers the roof for 5 years and the frame for 1, and none of the 14 written reviews across the bronze and gray 6.5 × 12 listings is critical.
It has side shelves rather than a bar, no published wind or snow rating, and no clearance drawing for this size. Its 4.6 is shared across PURPLE LEAF’s gazebo sizes.

SKIP: Sunjoy 12’ × 10’ Cedar Grill Gazebo with Bar Shelves
Sunjoy’s 12 × 10 has the look: cedar posts, a slanted steel roof, two bar shelves and a PowerPort, and six owners rate it five stars. Its listing says it stands “firm against harsh weather”. Its manual, model A106008430, says: “This gazebo is intended for decorative and sunshade purposes only and is not designed to withstand harsh weather, including high winds, rain, and snow.” The warranty is one year and excludes acts of nature. Sunjoy’s 8 × 12 Pro-Grill manuals say more: “Do not light any fires inside or near the product!” A grill gazebo whose maker writes that is not one we can send you to.

How to choose an extra-large grill gazebo
- Count your grills. One grill: a cedar XL works if the opening clears its manual’s side distance. Two or more: buy steel.
- Measure the opening, not the roof. Subtract your grill’s width from the opening between the posts and halve it; compare that with your manual.
- Pick the bar layout you will use: end counters (Saxony XL, Rockport XL) or an L or split bar (Granada).
- Plan the power: a GFCI outdoor outlet with an in-use cover for the gazebo’s cord.
- Call your building department about the footprint and tie-downs, and pour or confirm a concrete pad for the anchors.
FAQ
What is the best extra-large grill gazebo with a bar?
The Backyard Discovery Saxony XL. It has 4.6★ across 616 Amazon ratings (shared with the smaller Saxony) and 90 written reviews for the 12 × 6 size itself, two steel bar tops at the ends, and 120.3 inches between its front posts, which leaves a full-size gas grill about 36 inches a side. Its catch: the posts are cedar, so it suits one grill, not two.
Can I put two grills in a 12-foot grill gazebo?
In the all-steel Rockport XL, yes: nothing in its frame burns, and Backyard Discovery says its 10-foot centre fits multiple grills. In the cedar Saxony XL, not by the grill manuals: two 48.3-inch Weber Spirits side by side leave about 12 inches a side to posts Backyard Discovery itself says will burn, and Weber asks for 24 inches from combustible materials.
Is a bar top next to the grill a fire risk?
Not on these. Every bar top here is powder-coated galvanized steel, which does not burn. The combustible parts are the cedar posts and beams on the Saxony XL and Granada, so measure the distance from your grill to those, not to the counter.
Are the outlets built into grill gazebos safe to use?
Use them with care. Backyard Discovery's PowerPort and Sunjoy's outlet publish no electrical rating and no UL, ETL or GFCI listing anywhere we could find. UL 1363, the standard for plug-in power strips, covers 'indoor use' relocatable power taps. Plug the gazebo's cord into a GFCI-protected outdoor receptacle with an in-use cover, and keep the cord end off the ground.
Do I need a permit for a 12 × 6 grill gazebo?
Maybe. The International Residential Code exempts one-story detached accessory structures up to 200 square feet, but your county decides. Hillsborough County, Florida says anything not on its exempt list 'most likely requires a permit', and Pasco exempts gazebos up to 150 square feet only with tie-downs. These gazebos run from about 72 square feet (the 12 × 6s) to 118 (the Sunjoy 12 × 10). Call your building department before the boxes arrive.
Are the wind ratings on big grill gazebos real?
They are maker claims with conditions. Backyard Discovery's '100 mph*' footnote reads 'Product must be anchored as specified in the Backyard Discovery instruction manual', and its warranty excludes wind. Sunjoy's page says 50 mph while its manual says the gazebo 'is not designed to withstand harsh weather, including high winds, rain, and snow.' Anchor to concrete and take your chances on the storm.
Is the Sunjoy 12 × 10 grill gazebo good?
It is the one we skip. Six owners rate it five stars, but Sunjoy's own manual says it is 'intended for decorative and sunshade purposes only' and not designed for high winds, rain or snow, while the listing says it stands 'firm against harsh weather'. Its warranty is one year with acts of nature excluded. Sunjoy's 8 × 12 Pro-Grill manuals go further: 'Do not light any fires inside or near the product!'
Are these grill gazebos safe?
None has a CPSC recall (checked October 15, 2026). Sunjoy's one shelter recall, in 2014, was a fabric 10 × 20 canopy that failed a flammability standard, not this gazebo. The hazards are your grill's clearances to wood, an unanchored frame in wind, and outdoor power on an indoor-rated strip.
