Giraffe Tools Retractable Garden Hose Reel, 1/2 in x 130 ft
Longest retractable: 130 ft, and the reel Bob Vila and The Spruce both picked — Giraffe's wall-mounted auto-rewind reel with 130 ft of 1/2-inch hybrid hose and a 5 ft lead-in. Bob Vila named it Best Overall in a month-long retractable test and The Spruce named it Best Retractable. Owners give it 4.2★ across 10,934, a base shared by four lengths, and it is sold by Giraffe Tools itself, which matters: Giraffe's warranty excludes units sold by Amazon.com. Its owners' most common complaint is a rewind that slows and then stops, often after a year or two.
Sold in 4 lengths on this listing: 78 ft, 100 ft, 130 ft, 155 ft — this page is the 130 ft. Check the size before you add to cart.

Pros
- Bob Vila's Best Overall retractable reel after a month of installing and using eight: the "Auto-rewind system retracts the hose without any kinking or tangling"
- The Spruce's Best Retractable pick, so two hands-on tests point at this one reel
- Locks at any length and swivels 180°, so the hose comes off the reel straight in the direction you walk
- Sold by Giraffe Tools itself, the seller Giraffe's warranty honours
Cons
- The hose is 1/2 inch, not the usual 5/8, so it delivers less water than a 5/8-inch hose on the same spigot; the 5/8-inch Giraffe reels stop at 115 ft
- Owners report the rewind slowing and then stopping: 4 of its 10 newest written critical reviews describe a reel that quit retracting, one after three months and others after a year or more
- Giraffe's warranty is 2 years on the reel but 120 days on wear parts, leader hoses and O-rings included, and it is void for "improper storage (including freezing temperatures)"
- Bob Vila found "Loose rubber gaskets inside the hose’s couplings fell out upon unboxing"
- The rating pools the 78, 100, 130 and 155 ft reels; 1,706 written reviews are of the 130 ft
A rewind that gives out. The newest critical reviews say "they stop retracting" ("Three out of 4 have done this so far"), "Rewind broke after three months", one "stopped retracting after about a year of use" and another quit after a year and a half; others found the inlet connector "detached after only five months" or a reel that "leaks all over".

“The swivel feature is excellent. The whole reel turns smoothly so the hose doesn’t get twisted or kinked no matter which direction I’m watering.”— JN, Amazon · Verified owner
Pro review “We repeatedly dropped the hose on our concrete patio to test for durability, and there was no damage to the nozzle or couplings.”Hands-on test: Bob Vila installed and used eight retractable reels for a month and named the Giraffe Tools 130-Foot its Best Overall; the page lists it as ½-inch diameter. Page dated April 16, 2026.— Katie Barton and Tony Carrick, Bob Vila
