Intex 28051E Solar Cover Reel
Rectangular frame pools — The reel for an Intex-style rectangular metal-frame pool: it clamps straight onto the pool's own frame rather than needing deck sockets, and it arrives complete. 4.3★ across 1,138 on a clean base — the deepest and best-rated reel in the above-ground field. Buy it for a pool comfortably narrower than its 16 ft ceiling, because the tail is sag.

Pros
- Best rating on the deepest base in the above-ground reel field — 4.3★ across 1,138, clean single-model listing
- Attaches to the pool's own frame, so there is nothing to socket-mount and no deck required
- Arrives as a working reel rather than an end frame that needs a tube kit bought separately
Cons
- It SAGS near its stated maximum: owners of 16 ft and even 12 ft pools report it bowing in the middle — "bends in the middle at even half rolled", "pushing the limits of this by saying it goes up to 16ft"
- Rectangular frame pools only — nothing here for a round steel-wall pool or an in-ground deck
- Plastic thumbscrews are a named breakage point and owners report customer service being hard to reach
Sag at width, which is the whole category's failure and this reel's specifically. "Says it will handle a 16 ft wide by 32 ft long solar cover. Should have been made a much sturdier material as it bends in the middle at even half rolled"; "Works as described but they are certainly pushing the limits of this by saying it goes up to 16ft"; and, at the other end of the range, "this is not good for the 12' wide pool at all - it bows down in the middle making it extremely difficult to wind up the 16mil solar cover." Secondary themes are a plastic thumbscrew breaking on the reel retainer and customer service being hard to reach, plus one owner who received a used unit as new.

- — Price read 2026-10-02 from the live Amazon offer (Creators API): $133.33, no deal flag; was $121.64. Published at read time per the 2026-09-15 rule, ahead of Prime Big Deal Days.

- — Read the rating on a clean base: 4.3 stars across 1,138 owners on a listing with no size or colour variants pooled into it, so the number describes this reel and nothing else.
