Pros
- The configuration AmazingRibs actually tested: universal adapter on an 18.5-inch Smokey Mountain, Gold Medal
- App control and alerts from anywhere with signal
- Sold on Amazon by Flame Boss itself
- Owners on Smokey Mountains describe it as "almost feels like cheating"
Cons
- The same Wi-Fi complaints as the kamado kit: "impossible to get it to stay connected" and a 2.4 GHz-only radio
- The adapter does not fit every smoker: "I could not get it to fit my smoker which is a very large smoker"
- No screen on the unit, so the app is the only way to change the set point
- A thin base of owners, and recent critics say a software update made it worse
Wi-Fi and the app. "I’ve attempted to use it 4-5 times and it’s impossible to get it to stay connected", "They did a software update and effed it all up", "every 6 months or so I have to reconnect it", and a reconnect fight after moving house.
